French composers changed the musical landscape, with a fresh perspective, particularly for woodwind instruments. The music for the clarinet and saxophone composed in the twentieth century by French composers such as Bozza, Poulenc and Dubois radiated precise colour and tone, with hallmarks of wit and eclecticism as well as light and transparent simplicity.
