The RCM Woodwind, Brass & Percussion Department is the largest at the RCM with 13 teaching staff. Made up of expert performers and educators, the Woodwind, Brass & Percussion Department service the majority of the RCM's Schools Program. Working daily in both Public School and non-Government Schools across the region.
The Woodwind and Brass Department at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music offers a large and diverse range of exciting and dynamic ensembles for students of all instruments, ages and abilities. Led by a professional and highly experienced team of teachers and conductors, these ensembles provide a fabulous opportunity for students to expand and extend their instrumental and performance skills.

The Junior Brass Ensemble is open to students in school years 5 to 8, who have been playing a brass instrument for 2 years or more. Students develop their musical knowledge in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, while learning to play as a member of a small ensemble. Repertoire is chosen in collaboration with the members to reflect the ensemble dynamics.
This ensemble rehearses on Thursdays from 6:00 – 6:45.
Drawing the line from old to new. With a long history of providing quality brass instrument tuition, the RCM invites intermediate to advanced level Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Euphonium and Tuba students to rehearse and perform in an ensemble consisting of experienced teachers and musicians.
As part of student’s studies, members have the opportunity to perform music from all eras - fantastic film scores, adventuresome contemporary brass chamber music, Jazz, Latin and pop masterpieces, hymns and chorales. Under the direction of Peter Lothian, this ensemble aims to provide a fun, challenging and rewarding experience designed to develop student’s individual and ensemble performance skills to new heights.
This ensemble rehearses on Mondays from 6:00 – 7:00pm.
RCM Adult Woodwind and Brass Ensemble
The RCM Adult Woodwind and Brass Ensemble will be specifically designed for more beginner adult students who have been learning their instrument for up to three years and wish to play music in a supportive and encouraging environment. This ensemble will focus on learning ensemble skills with a range of enjoyable repertoire suited to all student’s needs and abilities and assisting adult learners along their musical path. This ensemble is coming soon.

This RCM Saxophone Ensemble is an innovative and progressive ensemble, comprising of advanced saxophone students of third grade and above who play a large range of challenging and eclectic repertoire.
This ensemble actively performs at community events and is part of the RCM lunchtime concert series.
Clarified (RCM Clarinet Ensemble)
Clarified is designed to give upper primary and high school clarinet students of intermediate to advanced ability of third grade and above, the opportunity to rehearse and perform a variety of engaging and exciting repertoire written and arranged specifically for clarinets. Under the direction of Jenny Binovec, this ensemble performs regularly at community events and has a growing list of performance engagements including tours and concerts.
The ensemble rehearses on Tuesdays from 4:45 – 5:30pm.
This RCM Junior Reed Ensemble is made up of intermediate clarinet and saxophone students who have been learning their instrument for one to three years. This group plays exciting and entertaining repertoire giving students their foundation experience playing in an ensemble with others. The emphasis is on having lots of fun whilst learning important ensemble skills and preparing for performances.
This ensemble rehearses on Thursday from 4:30 – 5:00pm.
RCM Flute Ensemble
The RCM Flute Ensemble offers an opportunity for secondary flute students and adult learners from third grade upwards to extend their musical technique, reading and interpretive abilities in a fun and educational environment. Under the leadership of Brett Thompson they cover a diverse range of repertoire which is carefully arranged and chosen to suit a mixed ability group and provide challenges for all participants.
They rehearse on Tuesdays from 5.45 - 6.30pm.
RCM Flute Choir
The RCM Flute Choir is designed for primary-age flute players from elementary to second grade. The repertoire is arranged and chosen to suit a mixed ability group providing support and challenges for all members. The ensemble provides an opportunity for younger players to extend their musical knowledge and skills in a fun group context with diverse and educational repertoire.
They rehearse on Wednesdays from 4.15 - 4.45pm.
The RCM Student Concert Band provides a wonderful opportunity for instrumentalists of any age to play in a larger ensemble. The band is particularly useful for those students who are finishing primary school and wish to extend their ensemble expertise and experience as they progress through high school. The repertoire is diverse allowing the band to give exciting and interesting public performances.
