Riverina Conservatorium of Music proudly presents Festival of Concert Bands:

The Riverina Conservatorium of Music is excited to invite you to our third annual Festival of Concert Bands!

Over three days, you'll experience a diverse range of musical activities, with something for everyone, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned professional. The festival features three band streams designed to cater to various skill levels, ensuring an enriching experience for all participants.

This year, we’re thrilled to welcome internationally renowned musician, conductor, and educator Prof. Rob McWilliams, alongside Australian Army Band Kapooka’s Major Nicolas Buff. With their expertise and leadership, this is an event you won’t want to miss!

In addition to learning opportunities, there will be live music performance chances, allowing you to showcase your talent. The festival also features skilled educators from the Riverina Conservatorium of Music, as well as professional musicians from the Australian Army Band Kapooka, who will be guiding you throughout the weekend.

📍 On Friday night, March 21, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, we’ll be hosting a FREE 'Carpark Party' at the RCM! Enjoy live music performances and tasty food offerings from a local vendor, all while soaking in the cool tunes and relaxed atmosphere. Don't miss out on this great start to the weekend!

Friday 21st March

Primary School Band Day

Open to all primary school students who have been playing for one year or more, this session, led by the experienced educators at the RCM, offers young musicians the opportunity to explore new repertoire, develop new skills, and make new friends. Friday's session is completely free for all school students.

Festival Party in the RCM Carpark

Kick off the Festival weekend with a party in the carpark! From 5:30pm enjoy performances by ensembles from the Australian Army Band Kapooka and the Riverina Concert Band, promising an evening full of music, fun, and mingling!

Saturday 22nd March 

CONCERT BAND WORKSHOPS:

Join RCM staff and guest musicians from the Australian Army Band Kapooka for a day of ensemble development, led by internationally renowned musician, conductor, and educator Prof. Rob McWilliams, along with Major Nicolas Buff of the Australian Army Band Kapooka.

Choose from two band streams (details below) and experience a mix of full rehearsals and group tutorials, offering all musicians an opportunity to refine their playing.

Stream 1  - The Wollundry Ensemble

The Wollundry Ensemble, led by RCM’s Tamara Spencer, plays repertoire at Concert Band Grade 2 level. It’s an ideal group for less experienced players or anyone looking to enhance their ensemble skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. 

Stream 2 - The Murrumbidgee Band

If you’re seeking a challenge, the Murrumbidgee Band is for you! Conducted by Major Nicolas Buff of the Australian Army Band Kapooka, this group tackles Grade 4 repertoire and offers an ideal opportunity for those looking for a more demanding playing experience.

Sunday 23rd March

Massed Band Rehearsal

All players combine to rehearse several pieces together in preparation for the Festival finale concert.

11am FREE Festival Finale Concert at the Victory Memorial Gardens

The Festival Finale will feature music created throughout the weekend, with performances by the RCM's combined Concert Bands and the Australian Army Band Kapooka. The event will culminate in a massed ensemble performance, bringing together all the participants from Saturday's workshops. It’s sure to be a musical feast!
