Experience the music of the 17th and 18th centuries, with its rich harmonies, opulent textures and flamboyant virtuosity set against sublime stillness and refined passion. The once famous composers chosen for this concert, whilst seldom heard these days, represent the pinnacle of artistic expression of their time.
Tommie Andersson - lute/theorbo
Tommie Andersson, born in Sweden and based in Sydney since 1984, is regarded as Australia’s leading specialist in lutes and early guitars. He completed his studies at the State Conservatorium of Music in Göteborg (Gothenburg), Sweden, with a Masters Degree in Performance, studying under Josef Holecek. He was then awarded a Swiss Government Scholarship for further studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where his teachers included Eugen M. Dombois and Hopkinson Smith. He has toured and taught extensively in Sweden and Scandinavia, Western Europe, Malaysia and Japan and also toured in South America. Tommie Andersson is highly sought after both as a soloist and as a continuo player and performs with Opera Australia, Sydney Philharmonia, the Song Company amongst others. Tommie Andersson appears on more than 35 CDs and lectures in lute at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Jenny Eriksson - viola da gamba
Jenny Eriksson completed her initial musical studies at the NSW State Conservatorium on cello then studied the viola da gamba with Jaap ter Linden at the Rotterdam Conservatorium for three years where she completed postgraduate studies in baroque music. Jennifer is widely recognised as one of Australia’s best known and most versatile viola da gambists. She has recorded six commercial CDs and performed in Holland, Sweden, Germany, Singapore, New Zealand and New Caledonia. Jennifer’s ensembles The Marais Project and Elysian Fields have just been named Artist in Residence at FM102.5 Fine Music for 2018/2019.

Keith Griffin - flute
Keith Griffin studied flute with Michael Scott, Margaret Crawford and baroque performance (flutes, recorders) with Howard Oberg at the NSW Conservatorium of Music, graduating (B. Mus.) with The Student the Year Award. Following graduation, he taught flute at the Con for several years. As a performer Keith has concentrated on chamber ensembles such as eclectix and Nouvelles Réflexions, has been a member of The Renaissance Players (Sydney Uni) and has played many performances in larger groups and special event orchestras, live to air broadcasts and recording sessions. In recent times Keith has learned to play saxophone and is currently engaged as a conductor with the Riverina Conservatorium of Music.

Fran Griffin - flute
Frances Griffin began life as a flute player, studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with renowned teachers Margaret Crawford and Michael Scott. She became interested in early music performance practice, studying baroque flute and recorder with Howard Oberg. After a number of years working as a freelance musician, she returned to study, completing M.Sc. (Hons) in mathematics at Macquarie University in 1999. Here she remained on staff until 2012, when she left Sydney to live in country NSW. She renewed her previous life as a musician, teaching for the Riverina Conservatorium of Music and performing in regional towns and in Sydney. Composition and arranging have become an important aspect of her life. With a number of student and community concert bands and choirs in the region, she has been creating new works and arrangements to suit their needs, in addition to writing music for students. She has written several chamber works, including a clarinet quartet which was premiered in Ostend, Belgium in July 2018.
